The book is a companion to an exhibition of the same name compiled by Merike Alber. Alber examines the work of Ede Kurrel, who graduated from the metal and porcelain painting programme of the State School of Arts and Crafts (predecessor of today’s Academy of Arts) back in 1931. Kurrel’s more than half century career started in 1930 at Estonia’s first national applied art exhibition. Her transformation into an acclaimed jeweller was rapid, and she made her name at the 1937 Exposition Internationale in Paris with a silver medal for filigree.
