Aija Murniece (1937) is a long-time artist at the Riga Porcelain Factory, who designed much of the decoration for the factory’s 1970s-1980s production. After graduating from the ceramics department of the Latvian Academy of Arts, she took up a post there and continued as a designer until 1991. Her strength has been her virtuoso mastery of the technique of intricate glazed porcelain painting. The book, in Latvian with a summary in English and containing nearly 500 photographs, opens up Murniece’s biography but is also the first comprehensive catalogue of her work in one of Latvia’s most important and widely known industries.
