Editor: Helen Adamson

Mall Tomberg is an artist who stands out on the Estonian textile scene for her powerful and multifaceted artwork. For almost 40 years, her scope has ranged from modern rya and woven rugs to long years as an educator. The 1960s in particular saw a focus on rya. As an artist, her work during more active and prolific periods is characterized by a searching, innovative works that play with textures and balance on the border of conservatism and experimentation. In her woven rugs, she often takes a playful approach to her work, being simultaneously multifaceted and expressive. The catalogue accompanies an exhibition of the same name.
